Though we are working in a free tier account but not all the services are free. Leaving side the test account but also in production setup money is a big concern and everybody wants to save money. There can be definitely be scenarios where we want to get notifications if your AWS bill reaches a certain threshold. We are going to see how this can be done in this article.
To set up a billing alarm we will make use of two AWS services i.e. Cloud Watch and SNS ( Simple Notification Service). To configure the alarm , follow the below steps.
Login to AWS console and look for CloudWatch Service.
Click on Billing on the left hand side of the screen.
Set up the billing currency
Setup the alert condition
Create an SNS topic to receive the alert. Here we will give an email id which should receive an alert when the alarm triggers. We will then have to login to the mailbox and confirm the subscription.
Add Alarm name and description and click on Next to create alarm.
In 5 minutes time the alarm will be in OK state .
So what are you waiting for , go and setup the alarm so that you don't spend more than you want to :-)
